Formed in the early 1960s, the Maytals are one of the best-known ska and rocksteady vocal groups and record holder for most number-one songs in Jamaica (31 #1 songs). Frontman Toots Hibbert one of the 100 Greatest Singers by Rolling Stone. Toots & The Maytals actually dubbed the genre with their 1968 hit “Do the Raggay.” They have been nominated for five Grammy Awards between 1981 and 2013, winning best Reggae Album of the Year for 2004’s True Love.
