OED welcomes Housing Catalyst to Business Development staff
OED is pleased to welcome our newest Business Development Officer, Jerad Ferguson, our first Housing Catalyst on the team. As the housing shortage across the Bay Area continues to take an economic and personal toll on so many, OED is committed to providing additional support to those interested in residential real estate development and investment, and the addition of this function to the Business Development team is significantly enhancing our effective reach.
As Housing Catalyst, Jerad will be meeting, developing relationships and partnering with developers, contractors, investors and other residential development stakeholders. His goal is to help the City create housing development opportunities – market-rate and affordable – through site analysis and research, to provide hands-on site selection, permitting and entitlement support for developers, as well as participating in roundtables, conferences and events that promote and celebrate new housing in San Jose. Another key contribution he will make to the Office of Economic Development is sourcing, managing, and implementing data-driven leads of new development and investment opportunities, and helping to represent and promote San Jose’s advantages and City services to the development community and beyond.
Jerad comes to OED fully briefed on the City’s needs and issues, having served as Mayor Sam Liccardo’s Senior Policy Advisory on land use and economic development for the past year, and as Chief of Staff for City Councilmember Chappie Jones, and before that, for City Councilmember Pete Constant. He has also served as aide to a city councilmember in Alexandria, Virginia and for a California state senator in Sacramento. He holds a BA in Political Science and History from UC Santa Barbara.
