San Jose Hosts MFG DAY events with area students and manufacturers, Oct. 1-5
In a collaboration with East Side Union High School District and the Silicon Valley Organization (SVO), the San Jose Office of Economic Development is excited to announce the return of San Jose Manufacturing Week. During the week of October 1-5, more than 600 East Side Union HS District Students will tour advanced manufacturing companies across the city, getting exposure to cutting-edge technology and learning about career opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, and design.
Participating employers include BriteLab, a hardware startup incubator and manufacturing services provider; Cobham, an aerospace and defense manufacturer; BD Biosciences, a manufacturer of flow cytometry equipment for analyzing cellular organisms; Zoll Medical, a manufacturer of emergency medical response technologies; Fetch Robotics, a fast-growing robotics company that builds warehouse delivery robots; Vander-Bend Manufacturing, a high-volume precision metal fabricator whose customers include Tesla and Lam Research; and Bestronics, a San Jose-based electronics services provider that builds electronic products for businesses all around the country.
San Jose Manufacturing Week is based around National Manufacturing Day, which is Friday October 5. On that day, Jabil’s Blue Sky Center in South San Jose will be offering additional tours to hundreds of local youth from the City’s high schools, organized by NextFlex advanced manufacturing institute. At the event, there will be representatives from San Jose City College and Evergreen Valley College who will walk through different educational career pathways for students interested in engineering or advanced manufacturing careers. Most importantly, several of the participating employers will participate in SJ Works, a youth summer internship program that provides hundreds of San Jose high school students with their first jobs.
The San Jose Office of Economic Development is grateful to its many community partners that have made this event possible. For more information, contact Donovan Lazaro.
