Sonic Runway Closing after Four-Month Installation
Sonic Runway opened on November 4, 2017, and created a new experience at City Hall Plaza. The installation came to San Jose from Burning Man, thanks to a collaboration between the Burning Man Project and the City of San Jose’s Office of Cultural Affairs. Since its opening last year it was held over twice, due to its popularity as an activation of public space.
For four months, the public has demonstrated its appreciation of this addition to City Hall Plaza, flocking to scheduled and impromptu concerts and performances. Couples strolled, opera was sung, jazz was played and photographers and videographers deployed around it from every angle. Kids dashed around, skateboarders and bicycle riders performed and there was even a marriage proposal. And the end of the popular installation will be appropriately engaging, featuring a fashion show featuring the actual Sonic Runway as the runway, and a marketplace in the Rotunda. The fashion show will begin at 7 pm.. with the full event scheduled from 6 to 10 pm.
The event is free and open to the public.
